As such, we have a full team of veterinarians, nurses, and veterinary technicians, trained to handle emergencies, trauma, and critically ill animals immediately, whether it be a small wound or a life threatening problem.
At Blue Oasis Vet, our electronic medical records allow your veterinarian, radiologist, surgeon, internist, and nurse to communicate instantly as needed. This enables us to evaluate your pet’s condition quickly and begin treatment promptly, thereby reducing stress for both your pet and you.

Warning Signs That Require Emergency Care
If you feel your pet has an emergency, call us immediately on our 24 hour hotline or bring them in to our clinic right away. Act quickly at all times when you see the following signs or symptoms:
- Blood that continues to flow for more than a few minutes
- Painful, labored or noisy breathing
- An ingestion of a toxic substance or a foreign object
- Vomiting, diarrhea, or signs of dehydration
- The pet collapses, shakes or loses consciousness
- Bloated, strained, unable to pass urine or faeces
- Accidents, fighting, falling
- Redness, swelling or cloudiness of eyes, and vision changes
- Facial swelling, rash, or allergic reaction
- Suddenly losing their equilibrium, being confused, and aggressive
There are some silent emergencies as well. Even the slightest change, such as a reduction in appetite, lethargy, or stiffness, may indicate a potentially life threatening situation. It’s always better to err on the side of caution and seek veterinary care as soon as possible.
What Happens When You Arrive
When an emergency occurs with your pet, we will have a licensed veterinary technician (our Triage Nurse) who will quickly evaluate your pet’s medical condition in order to identify which patients need immediate attention first. The critical patients will then be stabilized for respiratory function, cardiac rhythm, and pain relief as soon as possible. After your pet has been stabilized, our Veterinarian(s) will then do all necessary diagnostics to help us identify why this occurred prior to developing a treatment plan for your pet.
We communicate openly during the entire process of diagnosis and care. We want to keep you well-informed about the medical status of your pet and what options are available to you so that you may make informed decisions regarding your pet’s treatment.

- The ICU is staffed 24 hours per day by veterinarians and registered nurses.
- A controlled environment that includes comfortable temperatures and oxygenation levels for the patient’s wellbeing and safety.
- Deliver precise medications, manage pain, and provide nutritional support as needed.
- The owner of each animal in the hospital will receive regular updates on their pet’s condition.
Our team provides an abundance of one-on-one care and attention to each pet while they are in our ICU to ensure both maximum comfort and optimal recovery.
Preventing Pet Emergencies
Preventative measures help minimize risk for emergency situations, but not all can be prevented. To help ensure a pet’s safety:
- Secure cleaning supplies, medication, & other hazardous materials (toxins).
- Lock trash cans to avoid eating hazardous items.
- Take away anything that could cause a choking hazard, such as Ribbons, Toys, and Electrical Wires.
- Never leave your pet in a car or in an area that is too warm/hot even for just a little while.
- Follow the recommended vaccination schedule, visit your veterinarian regularly to check for parasites, etc.
- Manage the time spent at play to limit fighting and injury to your pet(s).
Maintaining a routine of preventative health checks will allow you to address issues prior to them becoming severe enough to require emergency treatment.
