Before sending your pet out on a trip, you
should do everything you can
to insure the safest, most comfortable flight possible. In an effort to
help, our team here at the Blue Oasis Petcare clinic have put together
a list of helpful tips for you.
A good quality, approved travel box that is the right size is
essential to insure a safe trip
Try to keep the travel box in your home for a couple of weeks
before
the trip. This gives your pet time to get used to being around and
inside it.
Leaving something in the travel
box that smells familiar such as one of your unwashed t-shirts or
towels will reassure your pet and make them feel more relaxed. Dogs and
cats rely heavily on their sense of smell so never underestimate the
power of a smelly t-shirt!
Try not to feed your pet for 8 to
12 hours before the flight. Don’t give them any food for the journey
either. A pet travelling on an empty stomach is far less likely to get
sick. In this case, a hungry pet is better than a sick pet.
Make sure your pet has access to fresh drinking water during the
flight.
